Near the center of town is the Key Tree Cactus Preserve, open daily for visitors from 8am to Sunset. The park was established to help protect a rare stretch of the mangrove forest where so many Key Tree Cactus plants thrive. This community preserve gained permanent protection back in 2009 and now is available for free use. Stop by, it is right off the bicycle pathway. See for yourself, the Florida Keys Cactus Tree!
This preserve helps prevent the important tropical species from going extinct. We applaud the work done in the Florida Keys by the conservation ecologist. Nature Lovers can really get into the sights and pathways of the Tropical Botanic Garden. Big thanks go to the local folks behind the Fish and Wildlife Service.
The preserve is not for those looking for swing sets and tennis courts, here you come with a camera. Everyday the park is open to the public for walking tours and nature-based recreation. We use the bicycles and stop at all of the parks along the pathway. Go here for the nature and use Founders Park for the more youthful amenities.
