One of the most important organizations here locally is the National Marine Sanctuary. What a great resource for planning your dive locations and more about the history of the undersea world of the keys. They provide information, education, and help with the coral reefs, marine life, and the historic shipwrecks.
One of the big concerns is the seagrass beds, as these are the fisheries that the little critters grow from. It is a very big deal to those working in the commercial fishing industry here like me. Of course a healthy ocean is good for recreational activities like fishing and boating too.
Reef trips go out daily and most of the captains are very good. You get a fun time and lots of Underwater time. Plan on a lot of water based fitness.
Plan to see plenty of grouper, Hogfish, sharks, turtles and eagle rays. What a good dive destination, so what we are waiting for is the hotel deals. We have fun on the water from Key Largo to Key West. Everywhere are sharks, along with about 250 other species of fish.
