Everyone on vacation in Islamorada will see this park along the bicycle pathway. The community park is located between the Overseas Highway and the Old Highway, so you pass it on the bikes if you go the backway or the pathway. Look for it at mile marker 82.1 on the oceanside. This is used mainly as a children's ball toss area and as a dog walking park.
It is a great little community park and we took our dogs over there during our stay at the Islander. This is the dead center of Upper Matecumbe Key. I love this park. Parks are scarce, because the land is so valuable.
The larger dog park is over at Founders Park. Planned improvements to Southwinds Park include a fenced in doggie play area.
Islamorada and Upper Matecumbe have some very nice places for outdoor picnics. The island is wonderful and we were so impressed how clean the parks are kept. We enjoy Lighthouse park, southwinds and the larger Founders Park. Most of the local parks are maintained by the Islamorada Foundation Village Council, and they do a fine job. The park is geared toward tourists and residents looking for quiet outdoor time.
