Here are some of the tarpon fishing tips we got in the Keys. Tarpon give up their position by rolling on the surface, or just some of their tail breaks the surface. Use only a push-pole or electric motor, as a gas powered motor will spook off their feeding desires. A medium spinning rod and 250 yards of 20-pound test is a good rig. Live blue crabs are always a good Fish Bait. One of the better places to find Tarpon is around the bridges.
Hogy makes some really good fishing baits, all top of the line. They have a huge test group, and only select the winners for getting out into the market place. A good bait makes it easy for serious anglers or just the novice.
You can get the Hogy line of products at the Cudjoe Fisherman's Warehouse. Stop on the way down to Key West. The address is 22536 Overseas Highway, on Cudjoe Key (Mile Marker 22.5, below Big Pine Key).
Try Captain Mike Bartlett for Key West Backcountry Fishing. He is the king of the Tarpon, running shallow water sight fishing charters. You can go for barracudas, sharks, permit, Bonefish, and tarpon.
